Hello and welcome to Grobdale
We are a small farm nestled into the beautiful rolling Galloway hills in South-West Scotland. ‘Grobdale’ means dividing valley and ‘Girthon’ is the area we are situated in hence “Grobdale of Girthon”.
The farm is 65 acres...
of pasture, hillside, river, wetlands and some woodland. We keep Herdwick sheep a Lakeland hardy breed, Tamworth pigs another tough heritage breed and various ducks, hens and guinea fowl. We are a happy relaxed fun farm with all our livestock outdoor reared, grown slowly to bring the best mature flavour to our meat and eggs. We supply the best local restaurants with our produce and a few local small businesses and homes. We try to reduce our impact on the environment as much as possible by keeping our food miles small.
As a family we had travelled and visited lots of Scotland...
in our holiday time but kept gravitating back to Dumfries and Galloway, when we decided to up sticks from Manchester and start a new more rural life this area seemed to make the most sense. Our evil and cunning plan that has led us to where we are now is available to read and see on our first posting on the Grobdale blog “Wellies make you brave” I won’t make you read my ramblings here.
Now that the plan has come to fruition we are in the lucky position to be able to offer luxury holiday accommodation in the most beautiful part of Scotland and we hope we can tempt you to add us to your must visit list this year. When we came to the farm we had earmarked three outbuildings to convert to holiday cottages, The Dairy, The Croft and The Byre are beautiful stone single storey buildings with wonderful views of the surrounding hills and valley. We are very proud of the finished cottages and hope you will enjoy them and feel that you’ve made the same right choice as us to spend some time here in Galloway.
Kind regards
