How many September blogs, vlogs, diary posts or novels state this month to be when leaves change colour and temperatures drop ?…well Poo to that I hate to be a cliche, but I’m doing it too, there’s an avenue of Beech trees, on my route to most of everything that is stunning at all the spokes of the leaf colour wheel and right now it’s on the turn. There will be more photos as it transforms
I see cars stop all the time to capture the lovely canopy and it regularly stops me in my tracks ..
Another thing of beauty was the latest hubster project , as a joiner he’s always wanted to construct an oak framed building .. The planning permission for the steading conversion had its first stage approved and so we were thinking that all the chopped wood in the Byre needed a new home thus a wood store/ bale barn was born .. pretty stunning I thought..
Something a bit bigger than the usual window, door or crate …
Simple things make me happy and if you’ve read my rambles from the beginning you’d know my first blog was called “Wellies make you brave” .. we all know however that in those boots you need good socks and my bff knows how much I love good socks , and look at this gorgeous haul that landed one Friday.
I love you Steph , seriously ..more than chocolate
(though maybe not more than good socks)btw these came from Woolyknits in diggle a great place for cake, crochet and proper substantial socks ..
Anyway less of the soft and cuddly , one fateful Friday I got a mouthful of dirt and something less soft to land on early on when me and Lottie parted company at speed along our track !
It’s a learning process all this and I learned a lot that afternoon ..firstly I probably should remember to shorten my reins more and be more aware of lotties frustration with my miss daisy attitude .. and mainly we have lots of very lovely thoughtful friends here and afar that proper looked after me and my broken ribs ! Yes 4 to be exact … ouch
Thankyou everyone for checking up on me and Lauren so much xx it was appreciated very muchly , you know who you all are xxx
So not much into the month and as usual quite busy, we had a lovely weekend when Andy’s fave aunty and mum came to visit, they did tons to help me at home after my pony mishap .. so afternoon tea somewhere nice was kind of only fair . We’d heard about a new foodie place in CD called Mr Pooks it looked rather good so I booked us in ..
It definitely lived up to up to expectations , and I think we will be back to sample some more of their menus pretty soon ..
And the food didn’t stop there ,
The garden and the poly tunnel has been fruiting for fun ! Pounds of tomatoes , courgettes, potatoes , cucumber, carrots (tho I keep finding someone has been digging up my rainbow carrots for her pony !) Damsons, more rhubarb, the list is loooong .
So we got on with jamming, pie baking and preserving like mad ..
Its been great learning new preserving techniques and recipes ..
Elderberry vinegar and Rosehip syrup I really fancied making some more Grobdale products to try .The vinegar is bloody lovely .. THANKYOU Mark at Galloway wild foods ,
For that one ..
Any the how a bit of visitor info ..
Wigtown was a place we visited quite lot when we were up here on holiday before our move. It’s known as a book town and has as you’d expect numerous very good bookshops and lovely cafes ,Every year it hosts a literary festival and we finally got to sample some of the events and shows .. we rocked up to listen to Andy Stanton of “your a bad man Mr Gum” fame ..and we were not disappointed he was hilarious , we dabbled in a few more bits of the festivities and we will definitely be checking this one out next time round . The art installations were also a bit fab !
whilst we were galavanting , Andy made a start on getting the grass in ..it was finished off by the contractors as we don’t have
round bale machinery and its too cold and late for square hay bales now.. another learning curve.I think I owe a certain man a jar of chutney for helping sort out a bit of grass work out that week .. it was almost a little fraught .
But cuteness alert ..
More piggies came to join Thelma and Nora (the original Betty turned out to be Barney oops so he went back )..they are quite small so need to grow a bit before we unleash them into the main pen.
Meet Betty,Bam bam and Pebbles yes I know Bam Bam was a boy but hey go with me on this stoneage vibe
They are half Tamworth half Wild boar.. going to be tasty we think and possibly a bit more on the lean side.
Anyway the leaves are really changing colour now , and the Beech cathedral is looking more amazing every day , am loving our second Autumn here in Dumfries and Galloway …
Ouch ! hope you are now recovered from your fall !
FOUR broken ribs must have been painfull !
Fantastic photos and lovely to hear all your news.
